PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called overnight to the 3300 block of N.E. Madison Avenue for a house fire.
Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Hascall says crews arrived around 2:05 a.m., finding the home fully engulfed in flames and collapsing. Fire had spread to a second home, and additional crews were called in to assist.
The fire quickly spread to two more homes, and a second fire alarm was called out to bring additional resources to the scene.
Hascall says more than half of Peoria Fire Department resources responded to the fire.
It took firefighters over an hour to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews remained on-scene for most of the morning putting out hot spots, Hascall says.
Two of the homes were a total loss, one home sustained significant damage. The fourth home only had exterior damage.
Estimated damage to all four homes is $300,000.
Two firefighters were sent to a hospital with minor injuries from fighting the fire. They were treated and released.
Nine residents are receiving temporary housing assistance from the American Red Cross.
