PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to a car fully engulfed in flames early Friday morning at a Peoria gas station.
Peoria Fire Chief Larry Carter says crews arrived around 12:45 a.m. to the Shell station in the 1900 block of N. Knoxville, finding heavy smoke and fire coming from the passenger side of the vehicle, extending to one of the gas station’s pumps.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading into the gas station’s awning.
The vehicle and its contents were a total loss. The pump sustained damage and is out of service until repairs can be done, Carter says.
Damage is estimated at $20,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
