PEORIA, Ill. – Firefighters responded to a semi trailer on fire on westbound I-74 Tuesday night.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Maroney said the fire was reported around 10 p.m. near the Knoxville Avenue on-ramp to the interstate.
Crews round fire showing from the rear wheels of the truck, which spread to the trailer.
Maroney said the driver had disconnected the trailer before crews arrived. It took them three hours to put out the fire due to a lack of water.
Firefighters shuttled water to the scene, eventually going through some nearby woods to connect to a fire hydrant.
The contents of the Amazon Prime truck were destroyed. A portion of the trailer was also damaged. Total damage is estimated at $500,000.
No injuries were reported.
Illinois State Police and Peoria Police were on the scene for about four hours while the westbound lanes of I-74 were shut down for cleanup.
