Peoria firefighters assisted Akron-Princeville firefighters and medical personnel in the immediate treatment of a man whose arm became caught in a grain auger.
Akron-Princeville firefighters and paramedics responded to an address on Akron Road in Peoria County Saturday on a report of man who had a partial amputation of his arm. Upon arrival, officials found the man was no longer in the auger, but confirmed the partial amputation.
Akron/Princeville ambulance began transporting the man to a Peoria hospital and requested mutual aid from the Peoria Fire Department.
Peoria Battalion Chief Nate Rice said Peoria firefighters and paramedics met with the Akron-Princeville ambulance at 3:10 p.m. Saturday and provided advanced life support during the remainder of the man’s transport to a hospital arriving at 3:17 p.m.
Rice said in a news release, “The response of the Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics allowed for a critically injured patient to receive the advanced life support care that was needed in this situation.”
The man has not been identified and there is no report on his condition.
