A traffic stop on I-74 resulted in a Peoria man being tasered and arrested on multiple charges.
State Police say Damien Grant, 31, was pulled over near milepost 104 near Morton around 5:15 p.m. Thursday for traffic violation.
During the traffic stop, a trooper saw “criminal activity” in the vehicle and a second trooper arrived to search Grant’s vehicle. There is no description of the alleged criminal activity. During the search, the second trooper located a loaded handgun.
State Police, in a news release, say Grant resisted arrest, fought with the troopers and attempted to take the troopers’ weapons several times.
Grant was taken into custody after multiple taser deployments. Grant and the troopers were transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center where they were treated and released.
Grant is currently being held at Tazewell County Jail to await a bond hearing for the following charges:
