On January 1, 2020, recreational marijuana will be legal in Illinois.
Attorney Rodney Nordstrom was instrumental in getting a medical marijuana dispensary location in Peoria five years ago. He tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan, that a lot has changed since then.
“This law is just growing so fast. People cannot keep up with it. Lawyers and professionals can barely keep up with it, because it’s so complicated. The new law that’s going into effect is over 600 pages.”
Nordstrom says Illinois’ recreational cannabis law will likely be a source of trouble for some businesses that drug tests its employees.
“Possession of cannabis is still against federal law, which is a complicating factor because some businesses have overlaps with federal law and they have to apply it,” Nordstrom said.
Nordstrom and other professionals are hosting a free seminar about Illinois’ new cannabis law at the North Branch of the Peoria Library, at 3001 W. Grand Parkway, Wednesday from 5:30-8 p.m.
