Airport Director Gene Olson says the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport has had its best May ever, with nearly 62,000 passengers traveling through its doors. That’s up 2.6-percent from 2018.
The airport first exceeded 60,000 passengers in a single month in March 2015. It has surpassed that mark nine times to date, and twice this year.
“We were able to achieve this remarkable number of passengers during May in spite of the wet weather and construction on Dirksen Parkway,” Olson said. “The best part is that we did it without running out of parking spaces. We’re still crunching the numbers to see how we did in June, but we’re hoping for good news.”
May was also the third busiest month in PIA’s history. Passenger totals for June are still be tabulated.
Passenger totals for 2019 are up as well, with over 280,000 to date, a 2.7-percent increase from May of last year.
