A summertime pop-up thunderstorm rolled through Tazewell and Southern Peoria counties. The storm prompted a severe thunderstorm warning in Tazewell County from around 7:30-8:15 p.m. Sunday.
A tree fell on two cars in the 200 block of First Street in South Pekin. There were no reports of injuries. An officer reported the damage at 8:03 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
2.5 inches of rain were reported in Green Valley.
The storm did not prompt any warnings as is moved into southern Peoria County. Power has been restored in the Glasford area, where nearly 600 customers were left in the dark, according to the Ameren Outage Map. However, 233 customers in Peoria’s East Bluff were shown without power as of 5:45 a.m. Monday.
The National Weather Service says a band of showers and storms are expected to lift across Central Illinois during the afternoon Monday, with the best chances for rain along the I-72 corridor near Springfield.
Another band of showers and storms could lift north across Central Illinois during the evening hours. However, there is no mention of rain in the forecast for Peoria Monday and Monday night.
A 40 percent chance of showers and storms is forecast in Peoria Tuesday afternoon due to remnants of what was Hurricane Barry.
