It’s almost that time of year for school to start back up. But, before heading back to school, kids need their school supplies.
The Peoria Public Schools’ 2019 Stuff-A-Bus campaign kicks off this week, with the goal of sending students back to school with full backpacks.
PPS Communications Director Thomas Bruch said the cost of buying school supplies can add up.
“Anything helps”, Bruch said. “If every person in Peoria were to drop off just one school supply item in one of the bins, it would be huge for us and supply all our schools with the needed resources.”
Donation bins will be located at Northwoods Mall and at Peoria Walmart stores on Allen Road and University Street.
Not only does the campaign help the students gain school supplies, it lends a hand to the teachers.
“Peoria Public Schools it’s about educating the whole child in a lot of different ways,” Bruch said. “If school supplies are not one of the things they have to worry about and make sure that each kid is ready, it’s just one less thing they have to go outside the educational process to help the kids”.
The supplies gathered will be distributed by grade and by school where they are most needed.
“Just so we make sure every kid is ready to go,” Bruch said.
The campaign will run through Aug. 13.
