Don Johnson, CEO and President of Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois, based in Peoria, says his organization has not eliminated any positions for workers with disabilities.
A news story focused on Land of Lincoln Goodwill (in Springfield) recently identified them as a “Central Illinois” Goodwill. Johnson says Land of Lincoln Goodwill and Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois are two separate entities.
“There are over 160 independently operated community based Goodwills in the U.S. and Canada, each with local boards and local leadership. Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois, headquartered in Peoria, has not eliminated any positions for people with disabilities and has no plans to do so,” Johnson said.
He tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan that the Peoria Goodwill also does not participate in the Special Minimum Wage provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
“All employees of Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois are paid at or above the Illinois Minimum Wage.”
Johnson says Goodwill of Central Illinois looks forward to partnering with donors and shoppers, employees, sister Goodwill agencies, other nonprofits, and the State of Illinois, to grow the Goodwill Mission despite the changing financial landscape ahead.
