Celebrating local veterans.
Peoria Heights will host its 3rd Armed Forces Celebration Day on Saturday, July 20.
Scott Corsaut, with Peoria Heights American Legion Post 1111, says the event is for veterans from all branches of the military and their families.
“It’s a day to get together with the veterans service organizations in Peoria Heights, not only us, but the V.F.W. and Navy/Marine Clubs. Make people aware about our mission is. To let people know about veterans issues. The VA will be there that day, as well as the Peoria County Veterans Assistance Commission and artist Mike Ragan from 22VA,” Corsaut said.
He tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan, for the first time this year, the Armed Forces Celebration will have family-friendly activities at Tower Park, from 11-3.
Co-chairman of the event, Matthew Barnes, says proceeds from this year’s Armed Forces Celebration Day will support Habitat for Heroes.
“We just did a blessing last Saturday with Congressman LaHood. A veteran received a home. And money collected this coming weekend will go to a build next year for a home that’s in East Peoria,” Barnes said.
Barnes says bands will provide entertainment at Peoria Heights Square from 4-11 as part of the event.
