Peoria firefighters were called to the scene of an apartment fire at the Koinonia House, located at 1509 N. Knoxville, Sunday evening.
Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the 129-year-old building near I-74 from blocks away.
Crews were called to the scene just before 6 p.m.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Morgan said firefighters were able to contain the blaze within about 15 minutes, but stayed on the scene for an extended time to contain hot spots.
No injuries were reported.
It appears food left on a stove likely was the cause of the fire.
