A Peoria woman has died after an intense heat wave rolled through the area over the weekend.
Sunday around 10 a.m., the Peoria Police Department, Peoria Fire Department, and Advance Medical Transport responded to 2313 W. Howett St. on a wellness check.
Upon arrival, there were two residents found inside the home. One, a deceased female, and a male resident who was confused and incoherent, and was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
The female, identified as 61-year-old Julia Morgan, was found lying in a bed unresponsive and not breathing. She was pronounced deceased at 10:55 a.m., according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Her cause of death is related to exacerbation of her chronic medical conditions, due to extreme heat stress.
Harwood said the temperature inside the house was 97 degrees. Officers found a window air conditioning unit sitting on the living room floor running, but not producing cold air.
According to Morgan’s sister, the couple were unable to life the unit and place it in the window for cooling.
