There will soon been more electric buses on area streets.
CityLink has been awarded a $2.3 million federal grant for the purchase of electric buses and a charging station.
The grant is from the Federal Transit Administration’s Low or No Emission Bus Program. The grant announcement was made Wednesday by U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Represenatives Cheri Bustos (D-IL-17) and Darin LaHood (R-IL-18).
“We are very excited to have been selected as a recipient of the Low or No Emission (Low-No) Grant Program, said Greater Peoria Mass Transit District General Manager Doug Roelfs in a news release. “Electric buses will be a great addition to our aging fleet, and with technology changing rapidly in the bus industry, this will help us stay current with the trends of the industry.”
“Adding electric buses to our fleet will also help us continue our mission of being an environmentally conscious transportation agency,” Roelfs said.
The Low-No program provides funding to state and local governmental authorities for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses, including acquisition, construction, and leasing of required supporting facilities.
