‘Backpack Peoria’ returns this weekend.
Dream Center Peoria is hosting the annual event Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at 714 Hamilton Blvd., just days before school opens.
The Center’s Brian Uhlenhopp tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan Show they will have 2,500 backpacks filled with school supplies, and for the first time, $10 uniform vouchers for the first 750 people that attend.
“In addition to the backpacks, we’re bringing together the hospitals, the dental and vision exams. The school district (Peoria Public Schools) is there, so the kids and the families can actually register. So, we’re bringing it all together there in one place,” Uhlenhopp said.
Uhlenhopp says their intent is to give students everything they need to start the school year off right and on-time. Over thirty community organizations will also be on hand in the gym to provide families with information.
