Police warn of scams targeting Pekin residents.
According to a post on the Pekin Police Department’s Facebook page, a Social Security scam originates from Washington, D.C., and states the person’s Social Security number has been suspended.
Pekin Police have also have received reports of scams asking for donations for police vests and police and firefighter pensions.
Police says residents should not to give personal information out over the phone, and if you have questions about your Social Security number, call the Social Security Office.
