This is the fourth year state senators came to Bradley University to speak to seniors 50+, about issues that concern them.
AARP co-hosted a legislative breakfast with Bradley’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Brad McMillan, Executive Director of the Institute for Principled Leadership at Bradley, said the seniors enjoy seeing the legislators in person.
“The seniors love being able to share their own concerns, their own issues with live legislators,” McMillan said.
Those attending were able to write down their questions and concerns to be asked to State Senators Chuck Weaver (R-37), and Dave Koehler (D-46).
McMillan said some topics that were covered included the increase in gas tax and where that money is going to, and also prescription drug costs.
“For seniors, the prescription drug costs are of top concern,” McMillan said.
McMillan said that both senators are very knowledgeable.
“I think a lot of times when things get passed in Springfield, there’s some confusion and misunderstanding as to the details and how it affects them,” McMillan said. “The seniors do get a lot of clarification and a lot of answers”.
Bradley plans on continuing the tradition of hosting the legislative breakfast next year.
