208 Memphis to Peoria runners are making the trek home to Peoria.
The run’s co-founder Mike McCoy says Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis’ Gold Team took the first leg home as they left St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital around noon Wednesday.
McCoy tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan that the Gold Team ran until about 8:00 p.m. Wednesday before his Blue Team hit the pavement for its first leg of the run home.
“The Blue Team just got done running all night. And, it was absolutely gorgeous. There were lots of stars, 70-degrees, it was really great,” McCoy said.
The Memphis to Peoria runners will arrive back in Peoria around 6:30 p.m. Saturday to meet up with the St. Jude satellite runners.
“There’ll be 36 cities represented, running up from all over central Illinois, Chicago and St. Louis. About 3,200 to 3,300 runners all together,” McCoy said.
McCoy says they intentionally did not add any satellite runs this year.
“You know it’s getting a little big. We’re just asking the ones we got to get a little bigger.”
The St. Jude runners’ paths will converge outside the Peoria Civic Center ahead of the St. Jude’s Telethon on news partner 25 News Saturday night.
To date, the St. Jude Runs have raised over $60 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
