Peoria City Council Member Zach Oyler was arrested Tuesday.
Oyler was arrested for aggravated domestic battery, interfering with a report of domestic violence, and unlawful restraint, and booked in the Peoria County Jail at before 11:30 p.m.
Oyler’s wife, filed an emergency order of protection on Wednesday, stating he needed to stay 300 feet away from her.
The night of the incident, officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of N. Bigelow around 9:30 Tuesday.
According to the petition, Oyler’s wife said he was “at the bar drinking and when he returned he fell asleep but before he went to sleep he was shouting at me”. The report mentioned that Oyler’s wife went out to dinner when he called asking if she would be coming home.
The petition stated that when Oyler’s wife returned home, he was in the yard waiting for her, “he walked in behind me and said is this how it’s going to be. He was yelling at me for majority of the night. I tried to leave and he trapped me in the house”.
The report states that Oyler allegedly took his wife’s phone, threw her to the ground and put his hands around her neck.
After Oyler told his wife to get her keys and leave, she decided to call the police.
According to the report, Oyler’s wife had kept her phone in her purse while dispatch heard the incident, and Oyler went to the back of the home when police arrived.
Oyler was released on a $100 bond Wednesday.
Other acts of physical violence were in the report.
The report filed by Oyler’s wife mentioned “there has been numerous sexual assault with the last one being Friday”.
Oyler’s court date is Thursday, September 11.
