Peoria Fire and Rescue responded to a person reported to be in the river and clinging to the side Tuesday afternoon.
Rescue crews did not locate anyone in the river, but a man who matched the description, was seen running along the Peoria Riverfront just before 4 p.m.
The man refused to stop for police and a foot chase began. According to scanner traffic, the chase continued through two local businesses, Martini’s on Water Street and the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
The chase ended as police took the man into custody in the 200 block of SW Washington Street.
The man was taken to a hospital for observation.
So far, there is no report of any charges being filed, or as to why the man ran from police.
And, there is no confirmation if the man was the person reported to be in the river.
