OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is offering emergency training in hopes of saving lives.
“Stop the Bleed” is part of a nationwide campaign to address the most common cause of preventable trauma death…uncontrolled bleeding. Participants will learn basic lifesaving bleeding control measures, like applying a tourniquet and the use of pressure bandages.
Troy Erbentraut, the director of the office of preparedness and response at OSF, says more times than not, first responders like police and firefighters are not the first responders at all. “The first person on the scene of an emergency is usually the person who witnessed what happened. That is why this training is so important.”
The classes which are offered through October 3, are free and open to the public.
