That’s a lot of LEGOS.
The creator of ‘The Art of the Brick’ exhibit, Nathan Sawaya, will be at the Peoria Riverfront Museum Saturday.
Sawaya is a lawyer by trade, but he is now an artist that works exclusively in LEGOS bricks. He tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan, a section of his show is called ‘Metamorphosis’, and it is all about self-introspection.
“There’s a lot of looking in. And, probably pulling out what was in my brain, and making art out of it, using LEGOS as my medium,” Sawaya said.
Sawaya says that although his parents encouraged him to be creative throughout his childhood, it was actually his grandparents that got him his first set of LEGOS bricks when he was little.
Sawaya’s exhibit, on display through September 2 at Peoria Riverfront Museum, took a lot of patience to create. He says he spent an entire summer just building a giant dinosaur.
“Just all dinosaur, all the time.”
Sawaya is a proponent of keeping art in our schools.
“When you see that creating art helps people, helps students in schools do better with test scores and graduation rates, you think, wow, there must be something to it,” Sawaya said.
Sawaya will be speaking about his exhibit at Peoria Riverfront Museum Saturday at 6 p.m.
