On Monday, August 5, at approximately 6:27 p.m., Peoria Police responded to a Shotspotter alert in the 400 block of E. Arcadia. While enroute, officers received additional information about a victim of a shooting on Peoria Street.
Officers located a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said an investigation led to the identification of a 15-year-old suspect. Due to the age, the suspect’s name will not be released.
The PPD’s Target Offender Unit located the juvenile at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, near California and Nebraska.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident, but with a loaded handgun on his person. He was taken to the Peoria Police Department for interview purposes and was subsequently arrested for aggravated battery in relation to the August 5 shooting and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
Additionally, the suspect was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID Card, possession of a handgun under 21, and possession of stolen property-in relation to having a gun in his possession when apprehended. The gun had previously been reported stolen.
