The Peoria City Council unanimously approved a budget amendment Tuesday night for body armor as requested by the Peoria Fire and Police Departments.
The budget amendment will provide nearly $50,000 for ballistic helmets and vests for EMT’s and police. $20,000 worth of the equipment will go to the fire department.
The body armor would provide protection in the case of a mass shooting.
Despite recent mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, the request for the vests and helmets, was in the works for several months.
