Peoria’s Lutheran Social Services of Illinois needs more foster parents to help children under their care.
“Every agency is in the same boat…as in there just aren’t enough homes,” said the agency’s George Goodlow.
He tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan that ultimately their goal is to return the kids to their own families, but they need homes to foster children while they are wards of the court when other family members are not an option.
“So, the big push is to get more traditional (foster) homes, just in case that their might not be a suitable relative that can take the kids,” Goodlow said.
Goodlow says fostering lasts the length of the child’s case in the court system, and that can be a very short period of time, or a longer commitment.
“It’s when you’re needed. So, as long as those guys are wards of the court, and they still need to be in foster care, you’re on there,” Goodlow said.
He says once you are a licensed foster parent, you are licensed for up to four years.
