A Peoria nurse will spend more than two months behind bars for leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident.
Circuit court judge Kevin Lyons imposed a 75-day jail sentence for 26 year old Amanda Boyer, who was behind the wheel when her car struck a pedestrian on West Farmington Road in the early morning hours of January 20.
39 year old John Lackey of West Peoria, who was found on the pavement in the roadway, died a short time later at a local hospital. Boyer claimed she saw Lackey get up and was afraid what he might do to her.
In June, Boyer pleaded guilty to one count of leaving the scene of an accident where a death occurred.
Boyer, who must also serve 30 months probation, could have received a 15 year prison term.
