The legalization of marijuana in Illinois is four months away, and local officials will discuss local control.
Marijuana will be legal in the state of Illinois beginning Jan. 1 2020.
On Saturday Aug. 24 at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall, the Peoria City Council will hold a special meeting to “discuss recreational cannabis legislation”
The meeting will be for officials to discuss which direction the city should go, either prohibition or implementation of local control in regards to the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act.
El Paso and Morton have already passed an ordinance to prohibit the sale of marijuana. And Morton also will ban craft growers, cultivation centers, dispensaries, processors and transporters from operating in the village.
The bill that was signed by Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker allows local control.
