In a statement, the District 50 school said that Tuesday Aug. 27, a handwritten note containing threatening language was discovered near the main entrance of the school.
The note was written on a note card with what appeared to be a student’s handwriting.
Officials at the District 50 school conducted an investigation and also contacted the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office when the note was found.
After the investigation, officials were able to identify the student responsible for the note. The student admitted writing it and expressed remorse for the misconduct.
While it appears the student did not intend to carry out the threat, the district and law enforcement take all threats seriously, according to the statement.
School disciplinary actions will be imposed.
The statement said that school officials urge parents to discuss the importance of telling an adult right away if they hear or witness anyone making a threat to the school or anyone at the school.
For precaution, Washington Community High School saw an increase in police presence Wednesday morning.
