Two schools were placed on a soft lockdown Thursday morning after a shooting nearby, Peoria Police confirm.
St. Philomena Catholic School, located at 3216 N. Emery Avenue and Thomas Jefferson Primary School, located at 918 W. Florence Avenue , according to Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson.
The lockdowns came in response to a man being shot in the 3100 block of N. Isabell Avenue just before 8:00 a.m. Thursday.
Upon arrival, an officer found a vehicle with gunfire damage and the officer observed a male subject in close proximity to the vehicle who fled upon seeing the officer.
Officers, detectives, and a K-9 unit scattered the are to find the subject who fled.
A male victim was found in a backyard on Twelve Oaks Drive with life-threatening injuries at 8:19 a.m. The victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim was the one who fled the scene.
There are no suspects in custody at this time.
The lockdowns at both schools were lifted as of 8:30 a.m.
The investigation continues.
