September is National Preparedness Month.
And, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency wants to help prepare your family for a disaster.
I-EMA Spokesperson Rebecca Clark says there are five areas that should be addressed when it comes to preparedness.
“One of them is as simple as starting your savings account, and saving for a disaster. According to the Federal Reserve, 40-percent of Americans don’t have $400 in their savings.”
Clark says it is also a good idea to learn C-P-R and basic first aid, involving the whole family in creating an emergency plan and getting involved in community preparedness efforts.
“60-percent of Americans will rely on their friends and neighbors immediately following a disaster. So, being able to build that citizen first responder network, until help arrives, will be critical,” Clark said.
