Peoria Firefighters and Paramedics responded to Hines School at 4603 N. Knoxville on Wednesday around 3:30 P.M. to a report of a trash can on fire inside the school.
Upon arrival, Firefighters found that the Principal and a maintenance worker had removed the burning trash can from the school. A school employee pulled the fire alarm, and all faculty and students had exited the school prior to the arrival of the Fire Department.
A Peoria Fire Investigator was called to the scene and it was determined that the fire had been set intentionally.
Battalion Chief Michael Hughes says there is “significant smoke damage” to the 1st floor bathroom where the trash can was originally found. No injuries have been reported at this time.
