MINONK, Ill. — Not lost in the wash of the end of September’s rain madness was a local weather record.
Woodford County recorded 9.09 inches of rain in a 24-hour span on September 27th and 28th.
That nearly doubled the Minonk station’s previous all-time 24-hour precipitation record of just over five inches.
State Climatologist Trent Ford said that’s a microcosm of how wet September was across the state.
“Pretty much the entire northern half of the state had a wetter-than-average September,” he said.
“Some areas of northwestern Illinois, all the way down into the Upper Illinois Valley, received as much as twelve to 16 inches.”
The 24-hour record began being recorded in 1895.
Ford said the wetness could negatively affect fall harvest.
