SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – It’s that time of year when drivers need to be extra watchful for deer crossing Illinois roads.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Rachel Torbert said, as deer mating and hunting season gets underway, it’s a good idea to be extra alert while driving during the dawn and dusk times of the day.
“Keep scanning the sides of the roadways.. where you can catch the reflection of the eyes of the animal. This will help in alerting you of possible deer crossings,” said Torbert.
There were more than 15-thousand vehicle vs. deer collisions in Illinois in 2018.
630 people were injured in vehicle vs. deer crashes, and eight resulted in deaths.
