PEORIA, Ill. – A home was destroyed after a fire Saturday morning.
Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics were called to a working house fire in the 2000 block of NE Monroe St. just after 2:30 Saturday morning.
Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips said while in route to the scene, dispatch relayed that Peoria Police on scene believed the house to be vacant.
Upon arrival, crews saw the structure was fully involved and heavy smoke coming from all sides.
“We were there for probably two hours just trying to extinguish it from the outside. The structure was far gone enough just from how far advanced the fire was by the time we got on scene. There was no chance of making entry on it,” Phillips said.
Public Works were also called on scene.
“We had them come down, they determined the house was a hazard standing the way it was after it was extinguished,” Phillips said.
Demolition of the home was finishing up around 6:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
