MARSHALL COUNTY, Ill. – A Peoria man died Sunday after an accident on Route 29.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and EMS received a call at 2:48 p.m. for a two vehicle collision on Route 29 at the intersection of Thenius Rd.
Witnesses report that 69-year-old Donald “Skip” Burhans of Peoria was traveling southbound on Rt. 29 in the northbound lane. His vehicle struck a northbound traveling pick-up truck head on.
Officers found Burhans unresponsive and restrained by his seatbelt.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said that the Lacon-Sparland ambulance transported him to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in grave condition.
“They intercepted with Advanced Medical Transport in route, who continued transport with Lacon-Sparland,” Harwood said. “Despite resusitative efforts between them and OSF Saint Francis Trauma Center, they were unsuccessful in resuscitating him.”
Harwood said that Burhans was pronounced deceased at 3:51 p.m.
Preliminary autopsy results have not been released.
