PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Civic Center Authority Finance and Facility Committee met on Tuesday and discussed raising the price to park at the event center.
General Manager Rik Edgar said the state of Illinois is implementing a new parking tax beginning Jan. 1 2020, and the Civic Center must accommodate.
“We will have to adjust our rates to counter the new rates that we’re going to have to pay,” Edgar said.
The price to park at the Civic Center currently is $7 at the gate and $11 prepay online. However, the price increase will not be a drastic change.
“Six percent is the new tax rate,” Edgar said. “But we are looking at having parking being $10. Which we’ve had at special events, but putting them across all our events.”
Edgar said that the increase in the price will actually speed up entering the parking lots.
“We’ve found that folks with the change, it slows down entry. So, with the flat $10 it makes for no change and easy entry and easy out,” Edgar said. “Also, we hope it will be a better service for people coming to our events.”
Currently in downtown Peoria, the Civic Center has two parking lots.
