PEORIA, Ill. — A fire in Peoria overnight appears to have been intentionally set.
Crews responded around 4:15 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 1600 block of S. Charles.
The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.
Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips said the roof and floors collapsed in the fire, making it initially too dangerous for crews to go inside.
The fire was under control in about 45 minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene for several hours to water down hot spots.
“They are also checking just to make sure there wasn’t anybody in there. We’ve got conflicting reports. They’re just kind of sifting through the aftermath,” Phillips said.
Due to extensive damage, Code Enforcement was dispatched to the scene to demolish the structure.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
