PEORIA, Ill. –Peoria will host a kick-off event Saturday, Nov. 2 for its Subsidy Match Program to provide residents with a discount towards select Ring home security devices.
The event, for qualifying Peoria residents only, will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Northwoods Mall, at 2200 W. War Memorial Drive.
Peoria Councilman Jim Montelongo told WMBD’s Greg and Dan that the $100 discounts are funded by the City and Ring.
“You purchase the Ring system for retail value, and the City is matching $50 and Ring is matching $50 on the product,” Montelongo said.
1,000 discounts codes will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents will receive a code at the kick-off event to use towards the purchase of eligible Ring products. Only credit card purchases will be accepted.
In the event that all discounts are not claimed during the kick-off event, the City will post an application form at www.peoriagov.org which will stay active until the program funding limit has been reached.
“Improving neighborhood safety through technology is one of our goals. I want to eliminate home burglaries through security cameras on every doorstep in Peoria,” Montelongo said.
Peoria Senior Economic Engagement Specialist Kevin Evans said the Ring devices are not automatically monitored by police, but residents have the option to register their cameras with the city.
“From the perspective of somebody’s going to be getting access to my information just as a result of this is not true,” Evans said.
Subsidy discounts are limited to one per household and cannot be re-used or applied towards previously purchased Ring products.
