MORTON, Ill. – One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 74 east of Morton.
Illinois State Police say a semi and a Honda Accord, both driving eastbound around noon, slowed down due to traffic ahead.
The driver of another semi behind the vehicles, did not break in time and crashed into the Accord at mile market 104.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley confirmed there was one fatality as a result of the accident, the driver of the Accord.
The victim’s identity will not be released until Wednesday.
The police report indicated that semi drivers, 62-year old Mark Elbus of Kewanee, Illinois, and 52-year old Luanne Benita Breden of Canton, Missouri. Both were taken to a Peoria hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
State Police conducted an accident reconstruction scene through the afternoon hours.
I-74 eastbound traffic remained on detour, using the ramp of Morton exit 102, and was re-opened to eastbound traffic by 6 p.m.
