SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A Pekin native has been named one of this year’s recipients of the Order of Lincoln.
Former NASA astronaut Scott Altman is one of six people who will be honored in April on the campus of Illinois State University.
Altman took part in four space shuttle missions, spending a total of 51 days in outer space and logging over 7,000 hours in over 40 types of aircrafts.
He retired in 2010 from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and became Senior Vice President for Civil Programs for ASRC Federal Engineering, Aerospace, and Mission Systems.
The Order of Lincoln is the state’s highest honor for professional achievement and public service.
