PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Police Department has made an arrest stemming from an October hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian.
20-year-old Junior A. Betancourt-Barrera has been taken into custody for leaving the scene of an accident with death.
The event in question occurred around 9:43 P.M. on October 19th near the intersection of S. Western Ave. and W. Millman St.
Prior to the arrest, the suspect was last seen traveling northbound on Western in an SUV with a smaller body style.
The PPD was tipped off to the location of a gray Ford Escape that had a tarp over it.
Upon investigation, the vehicle had hood and windshield damage consistent with damage that would have been sustained from the hitting of a pedestrian.
Barrera was arrested Wednesday night at his home and taken to Peoria County Jail.
Further charges were pending.
