SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Unemployment rates were down in all of Illinois’ 14 metro areas last month.
Illinois Department of Employment Security Spokesperson Rebecca Cisco said significant improvements were seen this October as compared to October 2018.
“All 14 of our metro areas and 99 counties experiencing a decline in unemployment. The Chicago and St. Louis metro areas hit a new record low for October, as did 16 counties,” Cisco said.
The Peoria metro area’s unemployment rate dropped .7% from a year ago in October. But, the area also lost 1,500 non-farm jobs over the year.
Jobs were up over the year in nearly a dozen metro areas.
“The Carbondale-Marion, Champaign-Urbana and Danville metro areas experienced the largest decreases in unemployment. And, we’ve seen widespread job growth in 11 of the 14 metro areas,” Cisco said.
