PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s Ronald McDonald House, located at the corner of Monroe and Spalding downtown, opens its doors Monday, December 16.
Kelly Thompson, CEO of Ronald McDonald Charities of Central Illinois, told WMBD’s Greg and Dan they’re inviting the public to an open house on opening day.
“They can do tours of the house from 11 to 7. And, we’ll have a ribbon cutting with the local chamber of commerce as well,” Thompson said.
The Ronald McDonald House, at 401 NE Monroe, currently has room for up to 22 families with children being treated at Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
Local franchise owner Terry Clark said McDonald’s charity arm is something he’s passionate about.
“You get to see the blessing when you see people at the houses. They walk up to you and go,’you know, I’d have to pay this much money a night, and I didn’t know where it was going to come from. But, I’m thankful for the house, that I get to stay here,'” Clark said.
Thompson said there’s space to add more rooms in the future.
“The fourth floor is shelled out to provide an additional 12 rooms as they’re needed,” Thompson said.
