PEORIA, Ill. — A man wanted for a November shooting was tracked down Wednesday by U.S. Marshals and the Peoria Police Department.
Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said authorities surrounded a home in the 600 block of Spitznagle Ave., and 23-year-old Tyshan Gayton surrendered shortly after 5 P.M.
“He surrended to officers without incident, and was arrested for an IOC (Illinois Department of Corrections) Warrant with no bond,” Dotson said.
Gayton was accused of a Nov. 1 incident in the 2400 block of W. Malone that left a man with life-threatening injuries.
The victim did survive the shooting.
Dotson said Gayton was arrested on multiple charges.
“Aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, no FOID card and aggravated battery. He was arrested for all of those offenses pertaining to an incident on Malone Street,” Dotson said.
Authorities originally attempted Nov. 7 to track down Gayton in the 400 block of E. Republic.
Gunfire was exchanged and Gayton was thought to have run into a home on E. Briarwood, but he was not found inside.
Peoria Police arrested 27-year-old Jalita Sanders in connection with the arrest of Gayton.
Sanders was charged Thursday with preventing the apprehension of Gayton, aiding Gayton, and obstructing justice after she was said to have lied to cops in November about Gayton’s whereabouts.
