PEORIA, Ill. — OSF HealthCare has filed paperwork to develop a $237 million regional cancer treatment center in Peoria.
The new facility would be located on the existing OSF campus.
According to the application filed with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, the 180,000-square-foot facility would provide a full range of cancer related services in a single location.
In the filing, dated November 20, OSF said proton therapy would be a primary focus of the center. But, the facility would also provide brachytherapy, cancer clinics, infusion services, and screenings.
Proton beam therapy offers radiation that targets tumors in a more specific method, reducing damage to surrounding tissues and side effects.
OSF believes the cancer center could reduce travel time for cancer patients and, OSF HealthCare would become the main cancer treatment facility in Illinois between Chicago and St. Louis.
A 10-story parking deck, with 1,285 parking spaces is included in plans for the project.
