PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria will host the Illinois GOP State Convention from June 11 to 13, 2020.
The ILGOP Site Selection Committee chose Peoria in an unanimous vote, according to a press release Tuesday.
“We’re thrilled to be returning to Peoria,” said ILGOP Chairman Tim Schneider.
“What a great host city Peoria was in 2016, and it was just a marvelous experience for everyone who came to Peoria for a state convention.
“When they proposed their bid this year, there were several others in the bidding, but Peoria stood out among all of them.”
Schneider said Schaumburg and Collinsville were the other two finalists.
“We usually go north and then we go south, so this was a time when we were going to go north, but the state’s Central Committee agreed we would look to go wherever the best package was to keep it reasonable for our attendees and provided the things we needed as far as space, hotel rooms, hospitality, and we need a large enough venue to seat up to 1,500 or 16,00 people,” said Schneider.
“We narrowed it down to those three and Peoria came out on top.”
That means 2020 will make history.
“I believe this is the first time we’ve ever returned to the same city two times in a row,” he said.
