PEORIA, Ill. — Illinois State Police will be out in full force this holiday.
ISP spokesperson Haylie Polistina said troopers will be enforcing the fatal four.
“We’ll be looking for drunk drivers, speeding, people not wearing their seat belts, distracted driving,” Polistina said. “We’ll also be looking for Scott’s Law.”
This year, 27 ISP troopers and their patrol cars have been hit while pulled over on the side of the road.
“There will be more vehicles on the roadway so that means there is a greater chance for people being on the side of the road with car issues. So, people need to be cognizant, and move over when they see emergency vehicles with their lights on, or travelers on the side of the road with their hazards on,” Polistina said.
Polistina said if you attend an event where alcohol is being served, do your part to make sure the roads are safe.
“We want you guys to be responsible. So, we’re going to ask you to assist other people and be the sober driver, or call for a ride,” Polistina said.
