PEORIA, Ill. — Rep. Darin LaHood’s Democratic opponent has dropped out of the race.
Mark Haasis announced via Facebook he will not be challenging LaHood for Illinois’s 18th District seat.
Haasis said he’s recovering from a medical issue that, while not incapacitating, would be enough to keep him off the trail.
LaHood last ran unopposed in 2012, when he ran for Illinois’s 37th State Senate District.
A Springfield native, Haasis served from 2007 until 2010 as the United Auto Workers Political Director for the state.
