EAST PEORIA, Ill. — Get fit and “Get Lit.”
The 19th annual East Peoria Get Lit New Year’s Eve Celebration is set to take place from 9 P.M. until midnight on Dec. 31.
While the traditional fun run/walk will take place, new for 2019 are some family events.
There will be a bonfire and smores for the duration of the event, along with lighted trolley float rides through Folepi’s Winter Wonderland from 9-9:45, and then again after the conclusion of the run/walk up until midnight.
“We have a lot of people, every year, who will call and ask ‘can I walk through the Winter Wonderland?’ and we tell them you can only do that at Get Lit is at midnight,” said East Peoria Public Relations Coordinator Jill Peterson.
“We think by moving the starting time to 9:00, we will attract more people and families who want to come out who maybe don’t want to be out at midnight with their kids and 9:00 is a better time for them, and they can come and do these various neat fun things in the Winter Wonderland and celebrate the new year.”
The run/walk is scheduled to begin at 10 P.M.
Final registration will be from 8-9 p.m. at the Lincoln High School on Dec. 31. The cost is $20.
A limited number of commemorative shirts will be available while supplies last.
