PEORIA, Ill. — Look for more police presence on and near Bradley University in the coming weeks.
Bradley University Police and the Peoria Police Department are working together to increase patrols on the BU campus and nearby neighborhoods to make it a safer place for everyone.
The move is in response to recent criminal activity near and around Bradley University.
In a letter to parents and students, Bradley University President Gary Roberts said, “As most of you are aware, in the past few months, there have been some incidents of criminal activity on or in the surrounding neighborhoods of our campus. Perhaps because this type of incident is completely out of the ordinary for Bradley University, it has gotten some attention.”
Roberts and the BU administration met Saturday, December 28, with Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis, Chief of Police Loren Marion, and City Councilman Chuck Grayeb to develop a coordinated plan for making the Bradley campus and surrounding neighborhoods as safe as is possible.
Through the discussion, Bradley and Peoria officials agreed to implement higher law enforcement visibility on and around campus.
The university has committed to hiring additional security personnel, which will provide more security presence as well as give its twenty-one fully licensed and armed police officers more time to patrol and secure the campus.
Bradley will enhance its use of both recordings and security cameras, and increase the availability of the Hilltop Safety Cruiser program.
